San Francisco Police take bold step in anti-bullying campaign.

While reading Jack Hoban's Ethical Warrior articles on
Policeone.com, one of the concepts I learned is being an Ethical Warrior means
being a protector of ALL others. Possibly because of my excessive exposure to
80s action movies, I took this quite literally, picturing physical intervention
in potentially violent situations to keep others safe. To be an Ethical Warrior,
sometimes you must expose yourself to the very attacks you are protecting others
from. Made sense to me.

But, I didn't grasp the concept as well as I thought I did until Gary Klugiewicz
explained to me that protecting others means protecting them from all types of
harm. Mental and emotional injuries can maim and kill just as surely as physical
injuries can. We must protect from all types of injury.

The staff of SFPD who participated in making this video will most likely face
criticism and attacks from the public. And, being human, they will feel it. I am
willing to bet, they understood the potential for injury and still stepped into
harm's way to protect others. For me, they are true warriors one and all and I
thank them for protecting our kids.
