Is enough being done?
It's National Bullying Prevention month, and the Pacer Center website lists the partners that have signed on to this cause.
If you're really interested in this issue, click around and see what some of the partners are doing. For example, the National PTA lists its accomplishments here.
Frankly, the intentions are good but the efforts are underwhelming. This is a public health issue that deserves a more cohesive approach. Time to put the slogans aside, buckle down and get to work.

Bullying has been happening for many years, but you FINALLY you have a video that teaches adults WHY bullying occurs and what to do about it; from working with the bullied child's self esteem all the way to dealing with the school system where the bullying might be occurring. I wish each teacher and parent group could watch your video!
Comments on the updated Manage Bulling Program

I reviewed the updated Manage Bullying program.
I like the additional resource material, the Building Great Kids books and posters. They are very bright and eye-catching. They provide some very good information in simple terms that parents and children should be able to easily understand. I love the way they explain the concepts of deflectors, how respect for one self can lead to respect from others and the impact words can have on others for the rest of their lives. I especially liked the Sticks and Stones, punch in the nose versus verbal attack analogy.
This material is a valuable addition to the original program. Good work!
Anti-bullying means nothing unless you have experienced it!
My name is Dave Young. I am the Founder and Director of ARMA TRAINING and US FIGHTING SYSTEMS and I have over 40 plus years of experience in this subject and I thought the content was very clearly explained and helped the viewer stay on track with developing a personal plan and giving them an effective base for handling these unfortunately common and heartbreaking incidents that could effect a child for many years into their adulthood.
Great job!

I found the Managing Bullying program quite useful in guiding our son and some of his friends to develop better ways for them to see bullying in the first place, and then to put into place, skills to inform someone in authority (parent, teacher, etc) to create better awareness of potential bully problems, and also to develop more constructive ways to handle those situations for all concerned.

Hallo. I am Bo Munthe from Verbal Judo Sweden. The Manage Bullying program is GREAT. I'll be working to spread the program here in Sweden to parents, school staff and other interested parties.
Manage Bullying a Lifesaver
Thank you, Master Lee, for your personal interest, skills and life lessons our daughter received from your Verbal Defense and Influence teachings.
Our daughter was severely bullied at her Middle School while in 7th grade.
Over 270 abuses, 100 physical in nature, from pushing to name calling, beating to personal attacks, from threatening to kill her and her family to beating her with lethal weapons, it left our daughter and our family in chaos.
The Manage Bullying program and life lessons helped our daughter, brother and parents with a sense of hope, an understanding of why bullies act the way they do, and a plan to address this type of behavior in the future.
After working with Manage Bullying, our daughter's fear of others, mistrust of adults was eased, helping her to overcome the severe abuse she has endured.
It also gave her the strength to speak out and present the severe problem of bullying in our schools to over 350 people , earning her a citation from Representative Jon Richards and Wisconsin legislature. who stated:
"Elani, this citation recognizes the terrific work, and exemplary way you handled yourself in this horrendous situation, and that you changed the law in Wisconsin thanks to your bravery and your willingness to stand up and to fight back."
Regarding her presentation, the Milwaukee Journal article subtitled "The Victim shares her story as experts urge parent action" stated:
"In a powerful moment during the session at the Country Springs Hotel, students heard directly from the victim of the Pilgrim Park attack"
Without Manage Bullying and Master Lee's personal interest and teachings to Elani, she would not have had the strength and belief in herself to move forward and deliver such a powerful message.
Thank you, Manage Bullying, for helping give our daughter a fighting chance to survive.
Sincerely,
Mark and Shawn G.
Mom of 6 says: "Wish you had written this 30 years earlier"
Note: All the Manage Bullying techniques in this program are based upon the Tactical Communications methods of Dr. George Thompson. Thompson asked us to share this email, which he recently received.
Dr. Thompson,
Your book “VERBAL JUDO”, is a required assignment for a communications class I have the privilege of taking from Dr. Mary Kirchoff at Columbus State University in Columbus Georgia. I know you have heard this a million times before, but I LOVE YOUR BOOK! I have given over fifteen copies to friends and family members…at their request. As the mother of six children, now mostly grown, I sure wish you had written it thirty years earlier. I would have been a much better parent and spouse.
I learned something on every single page. You have changed forever the way that I look at all the situations and relationships in my life. What I used to see as problems I now see as opportunities to practice my “VERBAL JUDO." All my sons, each a second and third degree black belt, received their best education about life in a YOSHUKAI Karate dojo. Your book has shown us how we can use those same mental techniques in our relationships as adults.
I agree with you whole-heartedly that praise is the “single most powerful teaching weapon we have," and I have tried to use positive motivation as much as possible to encourage my sons. I also agree that punishment should be as positive as possible …
Again, thank you for your outstanding book. It should be required reading in every school and university. Imagine a world of humans educated in “THE GENTLE ART OF PERSUASION."

"My son can handle every situation"
"My son, Ian, has been using what he has learned from Manage Bullying for a few years now. It's been very good for him.
"I notice a difference in his overall demeanor. He's more relaxed, confident and self assured. He can handle himself in all situations.
"I had a situation about a week ago when someone got very confrontational with me. I thought about Ian and Manage Bullying -- and it made me take a step back, take a second and relax.
"It made me handle things differently than I otherwise would have. We appreciate that this bullying program has been exposed to us."

Dad, who also is an attorney, uses verbal defense at work
"My children are using verbal defense school and I as an attorney am using it in the courtroom.
"I know that out there in the real world, police, firemen and emergency responders are using this, too.
"It helps you diffuse the other side and keeps things on a very civil level. I think we should continue to use this for the rest of our lives."
